got you all in check...

Cutting Pink with Knives played Birmingham last night, which was good. Their next gig is London - check their myspace. They have started writing material for thier next album.

Seducedwomandead had their first practice yesterday as a five piece. They sound better than ever and fucking heavy. Get onto that shit. Add them on myspace.

We have new stuff in our distro - update coming soon.

Rolo Tomassi got their first review back today on www.massmovementmag.com -

Rating: 4/5
This is just one weird ass EP that really took a few listens to understand what the hell was going on. Hailing from the North of England these guys are just demented. If you took elements of Dillinger Escape Plan, Locust, Melt Banana 70's rock and Roll and then added a cheesy Hammond organ then this is pretty much what you get. Under no circumstances am I saying this is a bad record as it's not, it's an awesome record just be prepared to have to give it a listen or two first before you discard it.

Although I have used comparisons above to describe this nutty bunch, you really can't say that they follow any type of genre because as soon as you think that they sit in one type they flit onto the next one that leaves you thinking what genre are they doing now. These guys are going to be the ones to watch I reckon as they are going to continue to defy genre logic as long as they live.

Gutting thing about this is that there are only 5 tracks (and a sixth one being a piano interlude) but I suppose it does run for 25 minutes. Roll on the full length I say.

Magazine stuff....

The Rolo Tomassi ep appeared in shops on monday. Go grab it. It rules.

Also this week we had a presence in a couple of publications -

Rock Sound did a small feature on Phoenox Bodies, and gave the album 8/10. It was also in one writers playlist for the month, and the title-track 'Raise The Bullshit Flag' appeared on the cd. The kayo dot/bloody panda split 12" also got a glowing review - 8/10.

Rock-A-Rolla did a big article on kayo dot, have the split 12" a big thumbs up, and gave phoenix bodies their first outrightly negative review that we have seen.

Artrocker magazine also reviewed the split, and almost managed to sound positive, which we were surprised by.

The latest issue of Zero Tolerance is out which has a couple of HRR reviews in it (Kayo Dot/Bloody Panda and Phoenix Bodies both scoring 3.5 out of 6), as well as a HR ad and an interview Ellen wrote with the Catalyst (very good band) and some reviews both Ellen and Alex wrote.

In other news, Rolo Tomassi hit the shops yesterday and is officially 'released'. It's in HMV and online at places such as Amazon and the like. The clever people at HMV put it under 'T' for Tomassi in the Rock & Pop section. This has hopefully been sorted out now, although if people see it in the wrong place it would be appreciated if you could move them/tell staff! Thanks.

Alex and Ellen are both back at work and enjoying it loads :(

Debut...

This blog will be used by Alex and Ellen (aka 'the people behind Holy Roar Records') to update the world on not only any Holy Roar Records news, but anything else in our lives that we are doing....

Firstly its worth seeing these, to show what Holy Roar Records is all about -

www.holyroarrecords.com
www.myspace.com/holyroarrecords

We have Phoenix Bodies and Rolo Tomassi cds out, and a split 12" between Bloody Panda and Kayo Dot - all these should be available at your local HMV or good independent record store in the UK - and via various distros and stuff in europe and mainly through Stickfigure in the US, apart from Phoenix Bodies - which is out via HCNL/Slave Union in the US. Just click on the links on the right for much more detail and pics of the releases.

Today has been largely uneventful. Holy Roar went food shopping and is now working on an update to reviews/listings/messageboard website - www.thecommunion.co.uk - which should be up later today with plenty of new reviews.

Yesterday Alex played a gig with Cutting Pink With Knives at Notting Hill Arts Club - it was a free afternoon gig, it was packed and was really good fun. Alex also plays in seducedwomandead

Apart from review cds, todays listening has been dominated by Fucked Up's new album on Jade Tree and the new Lazarus Blackstar 7" on Calculon. Both are highly recommended.

Alex changed all his photos on myspace here for no apparent reason other than boredom and having some photos from our recent holiday to Nice.

The new issue of Zero Tolerance should be out now too - both of us write for it.

Holy Roar Records are currently trying to figure out and tie down our next few releases.
