Camera focusing is not punk rock

We had the Gallows 7" and Chariots EP delivered on Friday! We began shipping this week, they both look really awesome. We sent off Chronicles last week too so that should be with us soon.
Rolo Tomassi have played a load of gigs recently which have been really really great, reviews should be popping up all over the place soon.

Update...

A few things worth shouting about -

-Chronicles wrapped up recording yesterday. Everything is ready to go - so as soon as we have that disc in our hands this week it will be sent off to be pressed. We've heard the songs and they absolutely fucking kill everything. We are so excited about this one.

- We got the Gallows test press on friday - its sounds ace, as if this demo was always meant to be on vinyl. This now means we will have the full copies in just over two weeks.

- Chariots cds are being pressed as we speak and should be with us for valentines day. Ahhh.

- The Phoenix Bodies/Ed Gein/Chronicles of Adam West tour is all booked now - simply waiting on venue confirmations for London and Nottingham. This is going to be such a fucking good tour. We are hoping to post around the confirmed dates on Wednesday fingers crossed.

- Rolo Tomassi have a cuntboxload of gigs coming up, including 4 London dates in 3 months! Phew! Make sure you catch them over the next few months before they disappear to do exams.

- Cutting Pink With Knives go into the studio in april to record their second album. they have some good gigs coming up too and will have loads more in the summer!

- Bloody Panda are now on Level Plane and Kayo Dot are now on Hydrahead! But you knew that right? Might be worth picking up the split 12" we put out before it is gone forever....

That's all! Listen to Pinebender and Bloc Party and buy some new clothes!

Neglected...Abused...

I'm sure that's how our blog feels. Apologies if anyone actually reads this but over here at Holy Roar, records just don't make themselves, and that doesn't leave a lot of time for blogs.

So we may have failed to mention that we are putting out a Gallows 7" last time, although rather than talking about that you can just look at our site and check it all out there. We're currently doing a deal of our three next releases for £13ppd. It's basically ridiculous how cheap it is and if we were Primark someone would be investigating slave labour or something...

In other news we are currently booking the Phoenix Bodies UK tour which is taking place 15-22 June this year. It'll be with the super Ed Gein, and our new poster boys (really) Chronicles will be also doing most, if not all, of the dates. The tour dates should be finalised soon.

With regards to the Gallows 7", they are on the cover of this week's kerrang and this is pretty scary.

In other HR success stories, Rolo Tomassi have been played on Radio 1 not once but twice in one night, on the Rock Show and Steve Lamacq's show. Which is quite mad, considering. Phoenix Bodies have also been played on the Rock Show. Gallows basically live there also. We have taken over broadcasting house.

Generally things are so busy because of the pre-orders although tonight I (Ellen, that is) am interviewing Justin Broadrick for ZT, which will be nice. It'll be around half 7 so I wonder if he'll be having his dinner then, and if so what. Also we're heading up to Brum in a couple of weeks for the Flatpack Festival gig thing, more info is probably over at capsule.org.uk. We'll have our distro and whatnot. On the subject of the distro I magically deleted the entire list, code and everything, so I'm spending my time at work making it into a much more user-friendly table with pictures and everything.

Alex has got mad shit going on with CPWK which goes beyond just going out for Japanese food. They're playing a slew of gigs all over the place, including a really really nice show in London with Trencher and Rolo Tomassi on Sunday 11th Feb. Another date for your diary is Saturday 17th Feb as RT will be playing a drowned in sound afternoon gig thing that we will also be dj-ing at.

Right so maybe I might start doing this regularly...

Let's push things forward..

So things have been quite manic recently but it's all going well. Rolo Tomassi had a very cool interview, and a kinda weird review,in the latest issue of Rock Sound. Also, if you get hold of this issue via Tesco, it should come with a free sampler cd featuring a bunch of up and coming UK labels, including Holy Roar. We have a few copies of this also we should be getting our hands on soon, so if you want a copy give us a shout.

Phoenix Bodies might be coming over next year. We reeealllly want them to so we're trying to make it happen, we'll see as America is far away and getting them all to the UK is an expensive and hard work.

We have officially announced our next two releases. Using the marvels of ctrl+c and ctrl+v I can let you know these are...

"Chariots - the inner life ep - this is their final ever recordings, finally seeing the light of day. Better produced, more confident, heavier, more memorable and just 20x better than the album...this is an amazing swansong for this much underrated British band. The screamo comparisons and converge comparsions are completely redundant - this is huge, dark abrasive rock that should appeal to everyone who likes anything from Shikari to His Hero Is Gone to Circle Takes The Square to Yaphet Kotto.
Chronicles of Adam West - ep - after thinking that we had lost them to the land of metal, we found the Chronicles wanting to come back to the holy roar lair! Tech metal/rock that will appeal as much to fans of Psyopus and Meshuggah as it will to fans of Death Metal and even fans of rolo tomassi, the murder of rosa luxemburg etcetc. We are so excited about the future of this band....as their songwriting seems to be taking in elements of so many styles and making it completely and cohesively their own.
These should both see the light of day in feb/march 2007. We would rather take our time and do things properly than rush stuff and churn out shit.
...more to be annouced as it firms up. (whisper it - involvement with cutting pink with knives, upsilon acrux and more!)"

Rolo Tomassi head on tour as of this weekend, you can see all the dates and whatnot on our site and our myspace.

In other news, we both have both recently done reviews for the new issue of zero tolerance, which isn't actually out for a while. Alex has been practising again quite a bit with Seducedwomandead which is cool.

We saw Sunn and Leopard Leg at the Frieze Art fair thing, which was fun but a major pose fest. The Kylesa gig was equally banging also.

got you all in check...

Cutting Pink with Knives played Birmingham last night, which was good. Their next gig is London - check their myspace. They have started writing material for thier next album.

Seducedwomandead had their first practice yesterday as a five piece. They sound better than ever and fucking heavy. Get onto that shit. Add them on myspace.

We have new stuff in our distro - update coming soon.

Rolo Tomassi got their first review back today on www.massmovementmag.com -

Rating: 4/5
This is just one weird ass EP that really took a few listens to understand what the hell was going on. Hailing from the North of England these guys are just demented. If you took elements of Dillinger Escape Plan, Locust, Melt Banana 70's rock and Roll and then added a cheesy Hammond organ then this is pretty much what you get. Under no circumstances am I saying this is a bad record as it's not, it's an awesome record just be prepared to have to give it a listen or two first before you discard it.

Although I have used comparisons above to describe this nutty bunch, you really can't say that they follow any type of genre because as soon as you think that they sit in one type they flit onto the next one that leaves you thinking what genre are they doing now. These guys are going to be the ones to watch I reckon as they are going to continue to defy genre logic as long as they live.

Gutting thing about this is that there are only 5 tracks (and a sixth one being a piano interlude) but I suppose it does run for 25 minutes. Roll on the full length I say.
